Organise your social in one tidy dashboard - what a hoot!

For this edition of Social Bunny, I felt it was time to put the spotlight on a web based program that I / we (Federation Media) use on a regular basis to manage our many social media accounts that require us to reach our audience at any time or day of the week.

Introducing, HootSuite. You’ve probably heard of it, but those of you who haven’t have probably wondered if there’s a program out there that does, well, exactly what HootSuite does.

Hit me with the skinny I hear you say, HootSuite in a nutshell please…

"HootSuite comes into its own and really shines for online brand management where multiple social accounts are being cared for on an on-going basis"

·         Scheduled social media updates - optimise delivery by choosing the best time and date to reach your audience, e.g. guilt-free Friday arvo golfing while your social presence soldiers on

·         Spread messages – throw a blanket over your social accounts and publish single updates to multiple social platforms with a click of the mouse; free up enough time to pop the jug on and fine tune those vital foosball skills

·         Monitor mentions - one tidy and organised place where you can see and hear your ears burning

·         Team collaboration - share and share alike, manage multiple contributors and share data and access without sharing passwords. Fair play

·         Sorry, out of the office – not a problem, with HootSuite mobile apps for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and more, you can organise your social arena while at that important ‘meeting’ at the Cock & Bull

It’s fair to say HootSuite comes into its own and really shines for online brand management where multiple social accounts are being cared for on an on-going basis.

With the ability to manage all of the major social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (it’s also a Twitter client), LinkedIn, Foursquare, MySpace, and WordPress; HootSuite ticks all the social boxes that brands and companies are managing in lil ol’ EnZed. Check.

By no means is HootSuite a fancy new tool, it was launched back in ’08 and has been gathering momentum ever since. And now with the ever growing brand presence in Facebook, perhaps this is a timely heads-up to jump on board to save yourself time and organise your busy social calendar.

Those of you already up with the play, here are two new features HootSuite have rolled out just this week that you may not be aware of:

·         Photo attachments to posts – sounds simple, but it’s a well overdue and fantastic addition

·         Geo-targeting functionality, e.g. You can target a Facebook update to certain countries or cities, pretty nifty stuff indeed

Registration is required, but you can score a free account that lets you have five social profiles, or upgrade to the pro version for $6US a month for unlimited social profiles and a few other bells and whistles.

I hope this edition of Social Bunny went someway to making your world of social a happier one.

Thank me later, it’s been a hoot.
