Recently we had to say goodbye to one of our most loved and dearest employee’s - unfortunately the lure of the windy city had just too much pull. This event, alongside the burgeoning workload and natural growth of the company has meant that we have been pretty focused on recruitment recently.

Naturally, when you focus on something you tend to think about it more {duh} - and so being slightly obsessive my thinking about recruitment has framed up a theme which i believe is hugely relevant to all of us working in the new media environment.

Finding and connecting with people in a changing world...

We’ll talk a bit around this theme over the following month, but to avoid boring the pants off you talking about how we recruit we thought we’d lead in with a wee story that is close to our hearts and show you how we brought one of our favourite clients closer to their audience with some rather intimate engagement:

Finding Miss Tui - recruiting loyal fans through engagement and advocacy

"Hey, Little Jonny...I really want to be Miss Tui 2011, like soooo much. You're the best! xx PS: Vote for moi"
In this age of new media, building platforms for brands to connect and engage with fans, and allowing them to speak on your behalf, is critical.  There’s no stronger recommendation than one that comes unsolicited after all.

The development of a robust platform for engagement and interaction depends on recruiting a valuable audience and building advocacy.  Facebook, naturally is the first port of call for this type of interaction. But Facebook (unfortunately) simply cannot do everything. So we built a fresh, fun, R18 platform especially for our lovely Miss Tui contestants - you can read all about that here. What we really want to talk about today is how we connected with our fans, on Facebook and beyond.

Some of our contestant's successes were:

  • Reaching beyond Social Media and into ‘Real’ Media, by getting their faces (and voices) on TV, Radio and in the Newspaper.
  • Managing to rack up tens of thousands of votes with their hotness.
  • Offending the Alcohol Advisory Board with their all-too-racy images.
  • Generating extreme website traffic, like we've never seen before.
