Kentico, Umbraco and N2 - CMS faceoff at TechEd

10/10/2010 by Richard Wright
One of the proponents of Kentico in NZ - Keith Patton of Marker Studio faces off against two open source CMS systems - Umbraco and N2 (http://www.msteched.com/2010/NewZealand/KEY001 - requires Silverlight [well it is Microsoft!]).

We went through an exhaustive process when we were evaluating Kentico against open source alternatives (including Umbraco and N2) and while this was a wee while ago now we decided on Kentico for the following reasons:
  • support - having the support of a large, innovative and ambitious company cannot be discounted;
  • scalability - Kentico is true enterprise level - including webfarm support
  • breadth - Kentico offers many many pre-built customisable modules (though Umbraco has caught up a bit in this sphere) - though still lacks a ecommerce module (though to be fair Kentico is also a bit 'lite'). Some CMS reviewers say that Kentico has breadth not depth but we like it this way - we will do the depth should it be required.
  • customisation - Kentico is relatively easy to customise
  • sales support - Kentico provide a lot of Partner resources to help with RFP's
